I am a Chicago-based scientist turned science communicator. In 2018, I earned a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan for my dissertation on the evolution of a plant-microbe symbiosis. During my Ph.D. program, I realized that my life’s work was not in the lab, but rather in the challenge of making complex scientific topics understandable and exciting.

Since then, I’ve written and reported for several publications on topics including the food system, public health research and policy, and cutting edge botanical research. I currently work in Scientific and Medical Communications in the healthcare space, and in this role have created infographics, websites, presentations, press releases and media Q&A’s to convey scientific information in an engaging way for a wide variety of audiences.

I grew up in New York, London, and Lenox, MA, before moving to Ann Arbor, MI for undergraduate and graduate school. In my free time, I love gardening, hiking, camping, and exploring nature (and cities) with my wife Jen. She’s a software developer who moonlights as a freelance photographer, and is available to shoot alongside my writing. We also love hosting friends and family at Fort Sassafras, our cabin on Lake Michigan. When it comes to breakfast, I make a mean frittata, but my pancakes are pretty good too; it really just depends on whether you’re in the mood for sweet or savory.
